About

For those of you who know me: you know that I know stuff. For those of you who don’t: you might think what the heck does this chick know?! :) And why a blog?

What better place – I needed a notebook, a place to share ideas and to dump them to keep myself in order. My white board was just getting a bit messy. I’ll try to keep up with the current relevant data and industry trends, while sometimes I might reference history, because it’s relevant or interesting.

This is blog is a place for me document personal insight, knowledge and experience – maybe even throw some creative theory around business, technology and marketing …  I like to dream up what the future looks like and sometimes I’m thinking up solutions that don’t yet exist.

Please make sure you say “hello” once in a while. I hate talking to myself. (Even though I do at times, which can be funny) I love laughing, wine, learning, brainstorming, and honest, good people. If you aren’t interested in the same (minus the wine part), I might tell you what I think in the candid manner that I’m known for. Some close friends have said I can sound like a Devil Wears Prada Miranda, with my “that’s all“  approach for getting things done. (except I tend to smile, which ruins entire point of it) Really, I don’t know that I sound serious, so just poke fun with me and I’m sure to roll into a belly laugh!!

If for some reason you are interested in my background, here’s a quick random list of some personal and professional reference points:

  • I’ve helped start a small business in my home town (Palm Springs, CA)
  • I’ve launched a new vertical for a national company in a big city (Chicago, IL)
  • I’m the oldest of 7 and grew up with a single mother – somehow I survived it
  • I’ve volunteered my skills more than once to the Taproot Foundation (I hope you will too)
  • I’ve managed strategic projects for SAP, Coca-Cola, Bank of America, Chicago Board of Options Exchange, The U.S. Army, Apartments.com and others
  • I have 6 years of Search experience (SEM & SEO) as of the start of this blog
  • I sold eCommerce in 2000 and began my career in Information Systems Management in 1999
  • I officially started the season ranked as the worst in my college Golf league (I did get better)
  • I once won a scholarship (and was shown in a museum) to Academy of Art for my Photography (then took Art Direction for all electives, where I ultimately settled in on Marketing)
  • I teach Interactive Campaign Development at Columbia College Chicago (I’ll probably share some of that content here)
  • I’m in the middle of starting a Military Networking Group to connect local military communities (I was in the U.S. Army for 7 years, so I have a soft spot for the experience)

If you would like to connect beyond this blog or learn more about me, please reach out via email or the various other channels provided throughout the site. I appreciate your input and participation. I hope what I write is useful to you and that I get to know more about you in the future.

Thanks!

Amber Porter Cox
